NaiSaiKu
What is NaiSaiKu?
NaiSaiKu is basically a Haiku, or Haiku-length verse,
which is then repeated backwards.
The title is sandwiched between the two separate verses,
or is formed by the third line of the first verse.
The title is CAPITALISED.
The rules are very flexible, and the main thing is to have fun.
Examples of NaiSaiKu construction are found below:
Start with a Haiku:
Alone in the world
Unloved and unlovable
He’s his own best friend
Then simply repeat the lines in reverse order:
Alone in the world
Unloved and unlovable
HE’S HIS OWN BEST FRIEND
Unloved and unlovable
Alone in the world
Or,
Alone in the world
Unloved and unlovable
He’s his own best friend
ALONE IN THE WORLD
He’s his own best friend
Unloved and unlovable
Alone in the world
Or,
Alone in the world
Unloved and unlovable
He’s his own best friend
UNLOVED AND UNLOVABLE
He’s his own best friend
Unloved and unlovable
Alone in the world
Or even,
Alone in the world
Unloved and unlovable
He’s his own best friend
ONLY THE LONELY
He’s his own best friend
Unloved and unlovable
Alone in the world

Phew, I see you've been at the music box again, Stan! Many thanks for the NaiSaiKu examples and the American Sandwich alliteration.
ReplyDeleteI like that shoplifters one best in the 'found' section. Hold on a mo, I've just spotted 'Sweet Jane'. Maybe you should start a lost section as well. (only joking)

Thanks Roger; Just a bit of fun.
ReplyDeleteI love reading Haiku. On behalf of the ABC Wed. team thanks for playing.
ReplyDeleteHmm. I'm sorry, but I don't like this art form any better than I like Haikus. I guess I'm not cultured enough. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks to:
ReplyDeletelv2scpbk; Join in the fun.
Jay; I always thought culture grew in a petri dish... :)
Love the found American Sentences. A whole new take on things. I'm not so serious about the naisaiku as some are, but I do love the looseness of style and the potential of jarring a thought loose. :) Nice work.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tumblewords. I keep finding more...and NaiSaiKu isn't really meant to be serious, but you can make it as heavy or as light as you like.
