AMENDMENT
Very often sceptical
Therefore only a slight chance
Of being in full control
And beginning to unwind
Complexities of the Ninth
You might be so bold as to
Saturate yourself with facts
Then breathe a sigh of relief
When at last you discover
You're standing on the threshold
...Not on the blade of a sword

DeleteNanka's comment made me laugh! Nanka is right - those last two lines really do explain that feeling of the words falling into place!
ReplyDeleteThanks Robyn :)
Deletecomplexities of the ninth indeed...
ReplyDeleteNice little job of stitching up all those words, Stan. Well done.
ReplyDeleteLove this, Stan. Your use of threshold and sword is sharp. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks Brenda :)
DeleteI like how concisely you used the words - and the ending is terrific.
ReplyDeleteThanks Nan :)
ReplyDeleteI would be utterly relieved to find that I was standing on a mere threshold, and not on a sword--vorpal or otherwise!
ReplyDeleteA Dozen Whirls
Thanks MMT :)
DeleteReminds me of Baseball...
ReplyDeleteall those recorded facts of hits and misses and finally of who has won.
A different type of warrior, the sportsman.

ReplyDeleteThanks Sabra :)

DeleteGood one, Stan. Love the last 2 lines.
ReplyDeleteNice tight poem which did not cause you to fall on your own swaord.
ReplyDeleteGood job. Randy
Thanks Randy :)
DeleteStan, we are absolutely poised on the precipice of interpretation of the Ninth Amendment. The matter of the threshold or the sword depends largely on whether one evaluates all arguments for and against, or whether one simply listens to what others say and follows that without question.
ReplyDeleteCritical thinking has fallen out of fashion for much of America. Makes me sad.
Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for ALL, Amy
Thanks Amy :)
ReplyDeletePhew, I think I'll take the fifth amendment on this one Stan!
ReplyDeleteThanks Andy :)
ReplyDeleteWell woven, Stan!
ReplyDeleteThanks Walt :)
DeleteWow! Wonderful use of the words, Stan. Take a deep breath, we are very close to half way through it. Can't see how anything can be the same after. And I do agree, reality is often far stranger than fiction.

DeleteSorry, the last comment was meant for the other poem. Getting a bit ragged around the edges I guess. It may be a threshold, but it certainly feels like the edge of a sword.

DeleteOh, so that's what the ninth amendment says. Thanks for the link Stan, now I get it. (Once again proving I'm not as green as I'm cabbage looking.) :)
