For One Single Impression - Dawn
And We Write Poems - Distateful
WHEN WILL IT DAWN ON THEM?
It was not the Vuvuzelas
It was not the match ball
It was not the training facilities
It was not the match officials
It was not the playing surface
It was not the altitude
It was not the attitude
It was not the team coach
It was not the team selection
It was not the team tactics
It was not the missed chances

**************************
It was not the injury list
It was not the fans reactions
It was not the time added on
It was not a fluke
It was not fixed
It was not fair
It was just not cricket
It was not the world cup that was
It was the world cup that was not
It was not that we was not lucky
…We was robbed!
It was not the fans reactions
It was not the time added on
It was not a fluke

ReplyDeleteI see you are also affected by the world cup! Our whole country is coloured orange, for that's our national colour. The baker has orange cakes and cookies, the butcher has... no orange meat, but orange decorations. And if we lose, we'll say:"We are robbed..."
ReplyDeleteThanks to:
ReplyDeleteMagiceye; Over the moon or sickas a parrot...?
Wil; If Cruyff and co couldn't lift the cup, wiil this years team do any better? They won't be easy to beat for sure, but I don't see them going all the way.
Great capture of a disappointed fan.
ReplyDeleteThanks Nessa; There can be only one winner. The rest will just look for excuses.
ReplyDeleteAnother day, Mate.
ReplyDeleteAnd it wasn't American football either ha!
ReplyDeleteGood write!
Pamela
And the other team sees it SOOOO differently!
ReplyDeleteThanks to;
ReplyDeleteDan; Yep, there's always next time.
Pamela; No, but maybe American soccer...
Mary; Ain't that the truth?
And sometimes it's just a matter of the better team winning :). Any poem that can work vuvuzela into it is ok in my book.
ReplyDeleteThanks Francis; But everyone knows we're the better team :)
ReplyDeleteStill don't know what vuvuzela is. LOL. Enjoyed your poem and thinking one could write a similar poem about SOOO many different sporting events. I love 'we was robbed.' (sounds like some of the words I heard at the baseball game I was at on the weekend!)

Thanks Diane; It's an English/football expression. Traditionally football is a game for the uneducated.
ReplyDeleteFrom the match with Germany no-one could say'we was robbed' maybe,'we just hopeless' Our not so good anymore team is up against Ghana tonight.
ReplyDeleteIf we don't win we're out.I am not optimistic. How are you farin'?
Thanks Rall; 1-1 and 0-0. Need to win the last game to qualify. I think Oz are better than the Germany game suggests.
ReplyDeletegreat capture of a disappointed fan indeed.. and yeah, i am disappointed.
ReplyDeletei'm sad for England too.. two draws.. wish they'd dock Heskey and give Crouch the go ahead.
If Eng bt Slo, then they're through.. waiting for Wednesday...
Thanks Leo; Me too - let's hope Wednesday sees normal service resumed.
ReplyDeleteWe've been seeing all kinds of strangeness out there. And it's too bad. Just want fair play!
ReplyDeletewow...i have no idea...i am not into sports..
ReplyDeleteThanks Shradda; Not everyone's cup of tea...
ReplyDeletebetter be careful next time!!
ReplyDeleteOh! Good one! So very timely! Love the World Cup regardless of the drama...
ReplyDeleteThanks to:
ReplyDeleteHarshad; Or watch another sport...
Patti; It's the drama that makes it what it is.
:) Oh! I keep thinking it must be about the Vuvuzelas - but I guess not. Good post!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tumblewords; On Wednesday we'll either be celebrating, or we'll find something/one to blame.
ReplyDeletehilarious how you've caught the moment or should i say fever of the world cup... refraction
ReplyDeleteThanks Onemorebeliever; It's a funny old game.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't make out much but one thing is clear - you are not happy with your team.. Lets be a sport.. dear..and enjoy the fun
