We had high hopes here in Oz as well! We were just delighted to go out with some honour, having been beaten 4-0 in the first game! Then Australians backed NZ and they went too. Then I backed the UK (I've got dual nationality). Now you've gone as well! There's only one Anglo-Saxon lot left!
Thanks to: Rinkly Rimes; I thought Oz might get through, and NZ did better than I thought. I never doubted England, but they gave us a scare. Ocean Girl; USA are getting better. They used to be considered easy. Now they're getting hard to beat.
Sorry Stan, I'm not a World Cup follower, but I really enjoyed your playlist. Been a while since I listened to Pink Floyd and Comfortably Numb is definitely a favorite. Thanks. Also liked Made of Stone.
Actually am a football fan by default. Living in Green Bay, it's sort of a must, lol. But, only watch it when its on someone else's tv. Politeness still has a function in social encounters, yes?
Stan, this is the shortest poem I've read of yours so far! I've enjoyed some of the World Cup, will continue to follow it. (Hoping for either USA or Germany.) Go USA. That last goal they got was a beauty.
Elizabeth, the 'football' Stan is talking about is what we here call 'soccer.' And, by the way, I'm another cheesehead. Go Pack!
Thanks to: Elizabeth; Oh yes... especially if there's a drink involved... Mary; Patriotism always comes before logic - We all know who best teams really are. ViV; Still in today and still in tomorrow - then it starts to get a bit harder. TLH; I hope so too.
Everyone in my family is following the World Cup, and I've no clue as to what is going on. Great post! I will say though, you have an excellent playlist on display! Big Doors fan!
Thanks to: GT; Let's hope Capello's men can find the net tonight! Diane; Or is it Reality TV...? Weasel; If you don't like football you can always listen to some music.
nicely imagined Stan....after 4-1 loss....and when is FIFA going to get with the times and hav e video replay..unbelievable....but I like Rooney and his chaps losing....just like the US losing...as I wait for REAL fottbal to start over here and then Hockey.....anyways nice playlist also...Neil..Leonard..Pink F and the Undergraound all on my favourite list
It would have been good! Sadly Germany struck again, not than anyone I know was surprised.Perhaps now all those irritating flags will disappear from cars and vans!
Thanks to: Wayne; I see the richest in club football breaking away from FIFA if they don't hurry up and get into the 21st century... Keith; At least now we can concentrate on more important things... like the Premier League.

A nifty "kicking" kind of poem with a final question - like a kick for goal seeking the goal posts! Enjoyed this and the reactions above too!
