For Three Word Wednesday
And Friday Flash 55
DOING MORE WITH LESS
I needed help.
Being a rookie, my inexperience left me in a tricky situation.
The remedy was to delegate responsibility upwards.
It seemed like a joke at first, but the more I thought about it,
The more I realised I could use my position to gain leverage.
After all; if you don’t ask, you don’t get.
This is filled with a great truth.
ReplyDeleteThanks Thom; Asking for help is the best way to get ahead..
ReplyDeleteOne of the ironies of life is that people often like you more when they can occasionally help you out. It's a fine line, but it works.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ann; Or only begin to like you when you turn to them for help.
ReplyDeleteSo very true.
ReplyDeleteA few words that made a great deal of sense.
ReplyDeleteso true!
ReplyDeleteOnly if we have the courage to take first step.. to seek help.. know that someone is better.. pure truth. well done..
ReplyDeleteThanks to:
ReplyDeleteAnthony; Although we don't always get what we ask for...
Rinkly Rimes; 2 birds, 1 stone - know your own limitations; learn those of others.
Claudia; Sussing out the competition, disguised as wisdom.
Ramesh; For the aggressively ambitious, it's just a tactic.
This chimes of business feeling the pinch in recession to me... doing more with less seems to be a popular theme out there these days, sadly.
ReplyDeleteBut as the rookie learns, there can be leverage to this. Lemonade from lemons, they say.
Interesting one Stan Ski, well written.
Thanks Jay; Lazy, as in efficient, rather than idle.
ReplyDeleteah, there rings a great Truth in that one...nice 55...
ReplyDeleteThanks Brian; And of course, it all depends what you ask for.
ReplyDeleteSometimes the hardest thing to ask for is help..
ReplyDeleteThanks Buzzars; Often it's the hardest thing to get.
ReplyDeleteDelegate is the key word!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mona; Delegation works at every level.
ReplyDeleteYes, the Lord does help those who ask. Or something like that. Seek and ye shall find - I think that's it!!
ReplyDeleteStan...
ReplyDeleteIt sort of like how men are reluctent to ask for directions?
Excellent 55 My Friend
Thanks for playing, and have a Kick Ass Week-End!
The truth here is almost painful. So witty and erudite. How'd you pack such a punch in so few words? Masterfully written.
ReplyDeleteThanks to:
ReplyDeleteJannie; How about 'ask and you shall recieve'...? Though it's not always the case...
G-Man; We always know where we're going - even when we're lost...
K; Most people are looking for some sort of guidance, and someone has to take the lead.
isn't this how we all approach courage?
ReplyDeleteGood post.
Thanks Daily Panic; It often takes as much courage to offer help as it does to ask for it.
ReplyDeleteI will take that as an advice at my work...
ReplyDeleteexcellent thought
I wish I could remember that more often instead of trying to do everything. Good tale today.
ReplyDeleteI love your writing because every now and again I "hear" the northern basic lines - "If you don't ask you don't get" now there is a familiar few words...or as my friend says "Shy kids get nowt" lol love the word nowt!
ReplyDeleteMine is up - be of it a tad from the norm!
Have a good Friday.
PS Thought about your poem last night - we had fisning chips at Whitby! lol!
oh yes.. very true.. if u don't ask, u don't get..!
ReplyDeleteWow. So true. You put so much into so few words. I really love this story. Have a great Friday :)
ReplyDeleteThanks to:
ReplyDeleteSwputh; Show your initiative - management love it.
AJ; Even if you know how, delegating responsibilities implies belief in others.
Mrs. Nesbitt; I hope you can - I don't wann lose me northern accent.
Hope you enjoyed Whitby - and real fishing chips.
Leo; Ask a lot of questions and make a lot of mistakes; you'd be surprised how quickly you learn...
Thom; It's a formula that works, whatever your motive.
One of the cardinal rules of how to win friends and influence people is ask for help based on them being the expert! To hear or read my non-PC illustrated Friday 55 click here. Warning you may have to read the footnote after to make sense of it!
ReplyDeleteThanks John; I never read Carniegie's book, but must have had it quoted to me often.
ReplyDelete"Delegate responsibility upwards" Great line and truth there, Great read!
ReplyDeleteMine is up here
Thanks Austin; No 'I' in team...
ReplyDeleteI like the way you kill two birds with one stone, to coin a phrase!
ReplyDeleteI like this....delegating authority upwards. It's rather scary what people will do when told with authority.
ReplyDeleteThat is definitely one of my mottos.
ReplyDeleteIf you don't ask, you don't get.
Nice one!
well said in the end :)
ReplyDeleteThanks to:
ReplyDeleteJinksy; Why have a dog and bark yourself...?
Yvonne; The only way is up...
Scots Lass; Good for you.
Tagskie; Hi, I'll check out your blog.
Well said and often true. Lending a hand is what people do best.
ReplyDeleteI need to do more of that. great 55.
ReplyDeleteThanks Cheryl; Always good to bring out the best in people.
ReplyDeletebeautiful 55.
ReplyDeleteI love honest thoughts.
an award for you in my 55 post.
I think you're right...I also think that those higher up begin to feel a bit threatened if a rookie seems to know more than they do!! So it soothes their egos a bit if you ask for help!
ReplyDeleteSo true.
ReplyDeleteTrue!
ReplyDeleteAsking for help is something we all need to do but often we don't because it seems so hard.
ReplyDeleteThanks to:
ReplyDeleteNara; I think we all do.
Jingle; We all need help sometimes.
RNSANE; It also shows others that its OK to ask.
Monkey Man; We've all been there.
Mama Zen; Part of the process.
KB; We just have to get over our embarrassment and speak.
A lot of truth and profound thinking in that 55. Some good advice might be found there.
ReplyDeletewell said!
ReplyDeleteThat works great in the first few weeks. After that, not so much.
ReplyDeleteThanks to:
ReplyDeleteTeresa; I think we all know, but don't like to ask.
Magiceye; It's OK to ask.
Alice; Ther's always a limit to how much you can ask for and expect to receive.
Can I ask you a question Dad?
ReplyDeleteThanks Changnoi; I guess I had that coming... fire away.
ReplyDeletehahaha...FANTASTIC!!! That's what I believe too...
ReplyDeleteAsk such that it doesn't appear as if you are asking...and there! Work done!! :)
I loved this 55 :)
Thanks Kavisionz; Or ask anyway, just to see what the reaction is.
ReplyDeleteNow that's smart!
ReplyDeleteThanks Rebbecca; A simple solution to many problems.
ReplyDeleteYou dont ask, you dont get...So true. Nice one
ReplyDeleteThanks Jeeves; Glad you agree.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree too. Often people really want to help but don't know how. Asking for specific help lets them do what they want to do anyway. It's a two way street :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Dee; And there's always the ulterior motive for asking...
