BACKYARD BANANAS
These bananas are growing outside our back door.
They won’t be ripe until the end of February.
BORDER
Breakfast long before first light
Full steam and full beam ahead
Follow Nongbua North Star
Steering straight on till morning
Upwards to Udon/Nongkhai?
Or take the left turn to Loei?
Crossroads crisis averted
Westwards to winter we choose
Up-country cool-down forecast
Chiang Kan chillout climate change
And misty Mekong morning
Defy Global Warming signs
Customs House caution signs warn
Of counterfeit cigarettes
Filtering through Loei from Laos
Now smoke-screened by frigid fog
Zero visibility
Zero traffic tolerance
Borderline zero greeting
Not a hero’s welcome home
Positive prospect pending?
Lunch date with lawmen in Loei
Capital verdict confirmed
Decision declared this day
Arbiter’s armed attendant
Offers official outcome
Not stay of execution
Rather extension of stay
BENEATH BIG BEN
M.P’s don’t tell lies
They don’t fiddle expenses
‘Stealer State’ taboo…?
SATIRE Vs VERITAS
Real estate to view
Expensive diddles aren’t they?
No flies on M.P’s
BOGUS BIOGRAPHY BUTTY
The M.P thanked his biographer for his accurate portrayal.
Then he noticed the disclaimer, stating the story was fictitious.
Similarities to actual events were unintentional.
Nicely Stan, Did I tell you about the lady in Manchester that's got a banana tree in her back yard? She's got it wrapped up in sleeping bags for the winter!
ReplyDeleteHad me worried for a mo in 'Border'
Cool NaiSaiKu! and bang on Sandwich. Have you seen what WN's doing at NanoAmerico^
Thanks Andy; Yes, you told me...sleeping bags - now that IS bananas...
ReplyDeleteI'm playing with NANO and will post something later.
We planted a banana tree at our house in Florida and we had our first bananas this fall. Delish! And I made banana bread, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda - Where our house stands used to be a small banana plantation - this is all that's left.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely poetic brunch for me! I even had to do a bit of geography. Thanks for sharing these.
ReplyDeleteThanks Yousei; Hope you got there OK.
ReplyDeleteLove your banana tree and your words, Stan! Thank you! Hope your week is going well! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteSylvia
Ah, I love bananas - and political satire.
ReplyDeleteThanks to:
ReplyDeleteSylvia; It's going well and I will enjoy.
Anthony; Satire makes polititians bearable.
Given the number of bananas we go through, we'd like to have a tree, but the climate would not permit.
ReplyDeleteOn behalf of the ABC Wednesday team, thank you! – Ramblin’ with Roger
Banana is a very common and very tasty fruit here in Brazil, love it!
ReplyDeleteYou're good with your words!
Thanks for sharing this!
Kisses from Nydia.
Thanks to:
ReplyDeleteRoger; The other way round here - I'm not fond of them.
Nydia; Similar climate to us in Thailand, I guess.
Excellent post! I'm thinking if I left now I could be right under that banana tree by February. Yum.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tumblewords; Watch you don't slip on the skins!
